CREDIT was established by World Relief US in 1993 to provide sustainable financial services to Cambodia's poor entrepreneurs. The institution has a triple bottom line embracing sustainability as well as enabling its clients to achieve socio-economic and spiritual transformation.

 


CREDIT became a licensed microfinance institution in May 2004. In just a few short years, it has grown to very fast in terms of loan outstanding and numbers of clients while keeping very high quality of loan. Since January 2005, CREDIT has been covering all its own costs through interest income generated on its 2.8 million dollar outstanding portfolio. As of Sept 08, CREDIT is providing loans to over 30,000 families through its 27 office outlets and 365 staff members. To maximize the impact on poor clients, CREDIT is working with some development partners to provide other complementary services to clients such as debt management, savings, and budgeting. Some other primary health care trainings and awareness of HIV/AIDS have been trained to clients by our NGO partners. Current CREDIT partners are: Kiva, Sokhapheap Poum Yoeung and Hope projects of World Relief Cambodia, etc.

 

The institution is continually improving in efficiency, outreach, products and services development, technologies and staff capacity building. This improvement is evidenced by successfully localized management and outstanding financial performance ratios, including less than 0.5% PAR 30+, high return on equity 22.91% (as of Sept 08), average outstanding/credit officer USD122,637, annual average OSS= 150%, etc. CREDIT has also received some international recognitions and awards such 2 years in a row received Merit Award from CGAP on financial transparency. The last rating conducted by Planet Rating, the world leader in rating microfinance institutions, showed a great result of CREDIT performance and structure. Planet Rating gave CREDIT B with stable for overall performance. This means that procedures are well developed, effective, and incroporate

a long-term could be made.  Long-term risks are identified in the strategic plan. CREDIT is in the good investment grade set by the rater.
